Flying By

I haven't written anything in the blog world for a while because I honestly don't know where to begin - so much to write about. So I'll just be random for now and keep random posts coming until I feel like I'm caught up, which will probably be never. I was just looking through some pictures and thinking man, David is growing up way too fast. With Michael it was all about, humm... which stage is he in? Let's read up on everything. What toys does he need? Does he need more interaction? Is he on schedule? etc. Now with child number 2 I have to make sure to pull out more toys for him. Oh, he's probably at this stage in life now. Wow, he's already crawling... and pulling up on furniture. No way. This is going too fast. Life and my perspective are so different. I never understood why people told me, child number one always gets the most pictures and it just goes downhill from there. I always thought, well I will love number 2 just as much as number 1, why wouldn't he have just as many pictures. I don't think that will happen to me. Wrong. Wow, now I completely understand what everyone was saying. Life is just busy. So in honor of child number 2, here's David in a nutshell.

Doctor Visit

David passed his 4 month mark, meaning another trip to the doctor for us. We changed doctors and I am so happy with our new one. It helped to have Dan on the inside pulling a few strings after shadowing a few pediatricians. David has averaged off to the 75 percentile pretty much all around. He's growing too quickly. He has super strong abs and legs- acting like a 6 month old according to the doc. Ever since returning from Utah he's super vocal and tells all kinds of stories. He loves watching his older brother and I love watching the two of them interact. He is still just the sweetest little guy and seriously the best baby. I feel so lucky. After his first shot today I couldn't believe it when he only grunted. Cried after the second poke, but man, what a trooper. I love this guy.

Is this for Real?

My 29 month old and 3 month old technically wear the same size diaper. Unbelievable! I was deciding whether to move up a diaper size with David the other day and realized the Huggies size 3 diapers are made for 16-28 pounds. Both of my kids fall in between that range. I've still got David in size 2 and Mikey in a size 4, but really, this seems so strange. If I wanted to I could buy one box of diapers for both a 3 month and 2 1/2 year old.

David had his 2 month checkup last week. Here are the stats:

Length: 57.5 cm (22.6 inches)- 40%
Head Circumference: 40.7 cm- 66%
Weight: 13 lb. 9 oz. (6.16 kg)- 87%

Needless to say he is packing on the weight. Let's take a stroll through his life so far.

Morning Smiles

This is what I wake up to every day- super smiles from David. He is such a happy kid we love talking to him and making him smile.


Here's a little video too taken on October 2nd. The quality isn't the best, so it is a little hard to see, but he gave the cutest little smile one afternoon when we were outside playing.

Gustave & David's Delivery

Time is just flying by. After you have a baby, it seems like everything is just a blur for the first few weeks. We've had extra visitors and excitement at our house too. My sister and her husband came up to visit us from Louisiana evacuating from hurricane Gustave. Thankfully their house was not destroyed but their neighborhood was hit hard. The 91 mph winds tore up all of the big 20-30 ton oak trees down their street and left a mess. Here are a few pictures from their neighborhood.

Driving 17 hours to Minnesota from Baton Rouge was probably not essential but they wanted to make a road trip out of it and visit their newest nephew. :) We are happy they were able to come. They are now back home without water, power, sewage and gas and living in a tent in their back yard. Hang in there Stacey and Norman! Hopefully the next hurricanes stay clear of their area.

Well, David is the sweetest baby ever- rarely cries and is just content to be here. It is so nice. Mikey has been so sweet lately too and loves to hold Davey and lay down next to him. We find him saying, "Hi David" in this cute little voice many times a day. It is so much fun to have 2 little boys.

David's delivery went very smoothly. I started contractions at about 2am on the 26th. We reached the hospital about 3:30am and they hooked me up to the monitors - told me that it was most likely a false alarm since my membranes had been stripped the day before and were ready to send me home. When they finally checked me I was dilated to a 5 and they admitted me right away. They had me so worried for a while, making me think I wasn't really in labor. The epidural was nice and once I started pushing the baby came very quickly; so quickly that a 3rd year medical student delivered David (had Dan been scrubbed in, he would've). The doctor on call thought for sure I had a while to push and so he kept on leaving. The nurse kept calling him back in, but he kept leaving. And then the baby was here. I wasn't worried at all and thought it was pretty amusing. Glad there were no complications or anything. If anything, I'm sure it made that medical student's day. Afterwords we had about 6 people come in helping with everything so I still felt well taken care of. Mayo really has great facilities and my experience here was really positive. Seems like this recovery is going much better than with my first. Well, here are some more pictures for anyone interested.
